Student Visa Refusal Reasons for Bangladeshi Applicants and Next Steps
- Most refusals come from doubt about money, purpose of study or plans after study.
- False or altered documents can lead to bans of five years or more.
- Read the refusal reasons before you do anything else.
- Do not reapply with the same file. Fix the cause first.
The officer must be satisfied, and you carry the proof
A refusal means the officer was not satisfied that you meet the rules. It is a decision about your file, not a judgment about you as a person. The reasons differ by country, but the same themes appear again and again.
For Canadian study permits, the IRCC page lists these reasons: no valid letter of acceptance, not enough money, a failed medical exam, doubt that your main purpose is to study, and doubt that you will leave Canada when your studies end.
Funds that do not add up
Money is a very common problem. Canada asks you to show funds for tuition, living costs and return travel, for yourself and any family who come with you. For applications from 1 September 2026 outside Quebec, the living-cost figure for one person is CAD 23,448 a year, and tuition and transport are extra. The UK asks for monthly living money, held for 28 days, and caseworkers look at how the funds were acquired. The US Embassy in Dhaka names three to twelve months of bank statements as useful for students. Australia asks for evidence of your economic circumstances, such as employment or business records for the 12 months before you apply, and income tax returns or bank statements.
- A large deposit that appears just before the application with no explanation.
- A sponsor whose income cannot support the amount shown.
- A relationship to the sponsor that is unclear or undocumented.
- Funds not held for the period the country requires.
A weak study plan or a poor course and career link
Australia asks why you want this course with this provider, why you are not studying at home if a similar course exists, and how the course will help your future. The UK looks at time since your last study, academic progression, your knowledge of the course, and how it fits your plans. If your answers sound copied or the course does not fit your background, the officer may doubt your purpose.
Choose a course you can explain from your own history, and write your own statement. The UK lists time since your last study as a factor, so explain any gap truthfully and show what you did in that time.
Intent to return and what dual intent means
Each country handles this differently, so do not copy one country's answer into another. The US treats every applicant as an intending immigrant at first, and a student must show ties that support a return. Canada asks you to prove you will leave when your permit expires. Australia says a genuine student's possible later interest in permanent residence does not count against them, but studying must be the primary reason for applying. The UK considers your plans to leave at the end of your permission as part of the study plan.
Prepare an honest explanation of your plans after study for each country. Say what you intend to do, and do not claim a plan you do not have. Officers compare your answers with your documents and your history.
Documents that disagree or are false
Inconsistent details cause doubt even when nobody lied. Check that names, dates, course details and sponsor information match in every document.
False or altered documents are far more serious. In Canada, IRCC says you can be refused and banned from applying for five years, and that you are responsible even if someone else prepared the file. The UK immigration rules list a 10-year re-entry ban for deception. The US Embassy in Dhaka says you may be refused and possibly receive a permanent ban from US travel. For Australia, read the consequences on the Home Affairs page.
If a document has a mistake, correct it at the source, such as the school, bank or registrar, and carry the corrected original. Never edit a document yourself.
English tests, earlier refusals and agents
UK guidance says English ability can be a factor, but a refusal letter must justify it. Check that your test is accepted and your scores meet the requirement. The UK and Australia both look at earlier visa refusals and cancellations, so declare any past refusal and explain what has changed. Never pay for a letter of acceptance. IRCC warns that fake or purchased letters are a known fraud.
Also compare names and dates across your test report, passport and application form. A small mismatch can look like a larger problem, and it is far easier to fix before you apply than after a refusal.
After a refusal: a calm checklist
A refusal feels heavy, but the next step should be slow and careful. Be careful with anyone who promises to overturn a decision quickly.
- Read the refusal letter slowly. Note every reason given.
- Canada: there is no formal appeal. IRCC says to reapply only if your situation has changed or you have new information, and you can ask the Federal Court for judicial review, usually with a lawyer.
- UK: if you applied from outside the UK, you can ask for administrative review within 28 days. The fee is £80, and a decision may take 12 months or more.
- USA: the embassy asks you not to argue. You may apply again at any time, but it recommends waiting until your circumstances have changed.
- Australia: your decision letter states what options exist. Read it before you act.
- Fix the real cause first. Then decide if a new application makes sense.
Frequently asked questions
Can I reapply to Canada straight after a refusal?
IRCC says you generally do not have to wait unless your letter says so, but you should reapply only with new information or a real change. Sending the same file again is unlikely to change the result.
Can I appeal a student visa refusal?
It depends on the country. Canada has no formal appeal for study permits, but judicial review is possible. The UK offers administrative review for outside-UK applicants within 28 days. Check your decision letter.
What if an agent gave me a document and I did not know it was false?
You are still responsible. IRCC says you are responsible for all information in your application, and the US Embassy says the same about documents. Check every paper yourself before you sign or submit.
Does one refusal end my chances for good?
We found no official rule saying that. But officers see your history, and forms ask about earlier refusals. Declare it honestly and show what has changed since.
